My RLF fellowship which is lovely.
World Book Day – visits last week included the brilliant Sarah Bonnell School, Swanlea School and The wonderful Book Box bookshop in Clapton
The SAS conference – my first ever where I met old mates, including Helena Pielichaty, Anne Cassidy (she’s got a new series soon) Fiona Dunbar, and new ones like Sue Mongredien and Saviour Pirotta.
A meeting about a possible radio play (fingers crossed).
Working at BBC elstree and trying not to gasp when seeing Whitney having a fag.
But most of all haveing some lovely lovely NEWS!!!
The Nightmare Card is on the shortlist for The Hackney Short Novel award and Brave New Girl gets the Booktrust stamp of approval as a ‘book we like’ for March and, even better, is on the shortlist for The Southwark Book Award.
Now I know I’m not going to win either prize – this isn’t fishing for compliments, you should see who I am up against – and anyway I don’t mind. Just having the validation of being on someone’s list is, for me anyway, a big relief. I am not the sort of author who sells shedloads and knowing that somebody thinks your books are worthy of being on a list with stuff by Michael Murpurgo, Kevin Crossley Holland and Anthony McGowan makes me feel very, very happy.
